Nana Buluku
Nana Buluku is a Galloway cow and the mother of Shango. She came to the Sanctuary after being used for breeding prime beef cattle, and today she lives together with her son and Mbaba Mwana at the Sanctuary, forming their own little family. She has always preferred to keep her distance from humans, but little by little, she is learning that she doesn't have to be afraid of us anymore.
About Nana Buluku
Nana Buluku is a beautiful older Galloway cow with a very strong personality. She is independent and still prefers to observe us from a safe distance, but she has been making slow and beautiful progress with her trust. 🐮
She is Shango's mama, and the two of them have an incredibly sweet bond. Mbaba Mwana, although she isn't Nana's daughter, has also become part of their little family, and the three of them can usually be found eating, resting and wandering around together.
When Nana first arrived, she was much more cautious around people. Now she is becoming increasingly comfortable with us and allows more touching, especially when she sees that there is nothing to worry about. We never want to rush this process. With animals like Nana, trust is something we earn little by little.
She is also still very much the mama of the group. Even as Shango and Mbaba Mwana have grown, she has continued to look after them and, until recently, they were still nursing from her. Seeing this little family growing together, completely free from exploitation, is one of our favourite things. 🌱
Unique trait: her quiet strength. Nana doesn't need to be the centre of attention. She is happiest simply being with her family, eating grass and watching the world around her.
